![]() I went photon over mars because of noise concerns and build quality. ![]() That being said I use elegoo rapid grey resin (it doesn't have the overpowering smell, rather a play dough ish scent). Hopefully that helps! That's broadly speaking, not specific to OP (who has made a tremendous rat ogre!)įwiw, I got the anycubic photon and I'm quite happy with it. This is not worth it for most people, certainly not for a neophyte printer, and they're limited in amount anyway, so most won't be available. The final tier is generally a merchant tier, where you'll be allowed to sell and distribute prints according to a license you'll sign. ![]() Some like Artisan Guild did away with the presupport tier once they hit a certain number of patrons, meaning their $10 tier got upgraded and the $15 tier subscribers got a $5/mo reduction in price. I've seen patreons where the artist supports the models themselves (sometimes to mixed success) and others where they get professionals to do it which tends to yield better more consistently foolproof results. Next there's often times 2 tiers that are very similar, the difference being the more expensive one, the models are presupported. Bottom tier of a few bucks a month is generally a "hey thanks, we really appreciate your support", that will explicitly tell you what you're getting (generally just thanks & the knowledge you're supporting artists). Mostly though, you'll see em with 3 to 4 tiers. I only warn because I see a number of newbies who buy in without being aware of the realities of resin printing & throw fits when "what settings is everyone using" gets met with the quite correct answer of "you need to run an exposure test".Īs for the various tiers on print patreons, some do things where you get more models the higher the tier. There's tests to run to figure out good settings, and helpful communities, but you'll have to do a bit of homework yourself. This means if we have the same printer, same resin, and same file, my printer settings aren't guaranteed to be the same as yours. There's a good sized learning curve as it's a chemistry experiment every time you print. Whatever patreon creators charge for their monthly packs, buying the files piecemeal from their web stores can meet that same price in 1-2 models easily.Īs someone who got a printer earlier in the pandemic I can definitely say they're a lot of fun, but it's a hobby unto itself. If you have plans to get a resin printer in the near future there are worse things than having a library of nice stl files ready for that day.
